KAMLOOPS — The award-winning dance squad from Kamloops School of the Arts hit the stage at Dufferin Elementary School Monday (April 11). The group performs at different Kamloops events.

Their next stop? The 25th Boogie the Bridge on April 24.

The group aims to promote the benefits of life-long physical activity. Carmen-Ann Schulz, an organizer of the Boogie, started running in the Boogie ten years ago.

At 65, she now has dozens of medals earned in competitive runs.

“I wanted to share with the kids that it’s important to have physical literacy. In all kinds of things, it doesn’t necessarily have to be running. It can be softball, basketball, karate, tae kwon do, as long as you’re moving and doing things that you love,” she said.

The Boogie team wants to teach kids that they don’t have to be the fastest or run the longest.

“We’re just trying to really encourage them to make running fun and put walk breaks in and not make it very serious or competitive,” said Jo Berry, founder of the Boogie.

And organizers are expecting a big turnout this year.

“I think it’ll be around 2,500 because we’ve been away now for two years. I’m really looking forward to seeing lots of students out as well,” said Schulz.

“We’re the first event back in Kamloops. We’ll just high-five anyone who’ll take a high five,” said Berry.
