Slight increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations over the weekend, six new virus-related deaths recorded in B.C.

VICTORIA — Hospitalizations in the province saw a slight increase over the weekend, with 288 people hospitalized with COVID-19 Monday (Mar. 28), and 48 people in intensive care.

This marks an increase of 18 from Friday (Mar. 25), while ICU numbers decreased by two.

According to an update from the BC Health Ministry, in the past 72 hours, six new deaths have been reported, for an overall total of 2,989. None of the new deaths took place within Interior Health.

In addition, the province says there have been no new health-care facility outbreaks, for a total of six facilities with ongoing outbreaks.

As of Monday, 93.4 per cent of eligible people 12 and older have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 91 per cent received their second dose and 57.4 per cent have received a third dose.
