NANAIMO — Any adult in B.C. can now get a free rapid antigen COVID-19 test kit through community pharmacies.

The provincial government said starting Wednesday, March 23 any B.C resident 18 years of age or older can now pick up one kit of five tests every 28 days from participating pharmacies free of charge.

People are required to show their personal health number, or if they are picking up kits for others, must supply their name, personal health number, as well as a date of birth.

It’s recommended individuals pick up a kit before they have symptoms of illness to use at a future time. Guidelines for testing continue to indicate tests should be used for symptomatic individuals.

B.C. is expecting to receive 4.4 million tests from the federal government this month and into early April.

As of March 21 almost 34.7 million tests have been distributed in British Columbia.

More information on the government’s distribution of rapid tests can be found here.
