Tk’emlups Kukpi7 Casimir acclaimed tribal chief of Shuswap Nation Tribal Council

TK’EMLUPS — Kukpi7 Rosanne Casimir of the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc has a new title to add: tribal chief of the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council.

Casimir was the only candidate to let their name stand for the position and was therefore acclaimed to the position.

She succeeds Splatsin Kukpi7 Wayne Christian, who stepped aside earlier this year after 12 years in the position.

Casimir was elected to a second term as chief of Tk’emlups last November. She has led the community through the public confirmation of more than 200 unmarked graves near the former Kamloops Indian Residential School grounds.
