Air quality advisory issued for Kamloops Wednesday due to ‘high concentrations of fine particulate matter’

KAMLOOPS — B.C.’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in collaboration with Interior Health, issued an air quality advisory for Kamloops Tuesday (March 15).

In a special weather statement posted on Environment Canada’s website, the ministry says it’s due to high concentrations of fine particulate matter that are expected to persist until weather conditions change.

Exposure is a concern for individuals with chronic conditions such as asthma, COPD, heart disease, and diabetes. Anyone with chronic underlying medical conditions or acute infections should postpone or reduce strenuous exercise, and maintain physical distancing when appropriate, until the advisory is lifted. Environment Canada says staying indoors helps reduce particulate matter exposure.

Additionally, anyone experiencing symptoms such as continuing eye or throat irritation, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, cough, or wheezing, should follow the advice of their health care provider.
