In their first of six head-to-head battles, the Kamloops Blazers beat their rival Kelowna Rockets with a 4-2 win at the Sandman Centre Friday (March 11) night.

The Rockets’ Andrew Cristall opened the scoring on a rebound. Blazer Connor Levis tied the score 9 minutes into the game, assisted by Fraser Minten and Matthew Seminoff.

Stankoven scored his first of two unassisted goals about 15 minutes in.

There were no goals in the second period, with Kamloops and Kelowna only getting in eight and seven shots on goal, respectively.

Just two minutes into the third period, Stankoven scored another after stealing the puck from Rocket Noah Dorey.

The Rockets put on the pressure and earned a point with a breakaway from Adam Kydd, getting within one.

Blazer Reese Belton got really close with a shot that got behind the goaltender, but Rocket Tyson Feist smacked it out of the way before it could get in.

Drew Englot sealed the deal for the Blazers with a goal halfway through the third, bringing the final score to 4-2.

The Blazers are at 40-14-2 on the 2021-22 WHL Season, good for 82 points in 56 games. Next up is a game Saturday (March 12) night at 7 p.m. at Prospera Place in Kelowna. The Blazers and Rockets have five more consecutive games together.
