City of Kamloops puts pre-paid burial service on hold

Mar 8, 2022 | 2:38 PM

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is suspending its program allowing residents to pay for their burials in advance.

In its regular meeting Tuesday (Mar. 8), Financial Services Manager Lewis Hill told council the City’s funeral deposit program provider, BMO, is no longer offering the service as of the end of May.

“This is not going to affect the people who have already invested in that program,” Hill told council. “BMO is holding that money until we have a new financial services provider for the program and then that will all be transferred over.”

To the end of January 2022, there were 483 people signed up for the program, with a deposit fund of nearly $400,000.
