KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers defeated the Victoria Royals for their 20th straight head-to-head win last night (March 5), winning 2-1.

After a scoreless first period, Fraser Minten helped Matthew Seminoff open the scoring just after a minute into the second.

Daylan Kuefler took a penalty for boarding, leaving the Blazers shorthanded, but that didn’t stop Logan Stankoven from scoring a shorthanded breakaway goal assisted by Logan Bairos.

The Royals got within one with 6:25 left in the game but couldn’t close the gap, even after pulling goaltender Tyler Palmer with just over a minute left.

The Blazers improved to 39-14-2-0 on the 2021-22 Western Hockey League season and are good for 80 points in 55 games. They remain in first in the B.C. Division and are tied for first in the Western Conference with the Everett Silvertips. They are behind the Edmonton Oil Kings in the overall league standings.

The team has a week off before hosting their rival Kelowna Rockets on Friday (March 11) at Sandman Centre.
