WOLFPACK WRAP-UP: Men’s basketball bounced, men’s volleyball looks to bounce back

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University men’s basketball team has been bounced from the Canada West tournament in Lethbridge, following an 80-75 loss to the Mount Royal Cougars on Thursday evening (Mar. 3).

TRU, at one point, trailed by 21 in the contest and managed to close that gap to just two late in the fourth quarter. However, the large deficit was too much for the ‘Pack to overcome.

Asher Mayan finished the game with 27 points and 10 rebounds, while Brendan Sullivan contributed 17 points

Nathan Petron countered with a team-high 20 points to Mount Royal. Patrick Vandervelden chipped in 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocks for the Cougars.

The WolfPack men’s volleyball team was in tough against the top team in the nation in its first playoff action Thursday night in langley.

The Trinity Western University Spartans breezed past TRU in three straight sets — 25-15, 25-17, 25-11.

The loss means the WolfPack will need to beat both the Brandon Bobcats and the Mount Royal Cougars to sew up the second seed and move on to the Canada West quarter-finals.

TRU takes on Brandon tonight at 8:00 pm in Abbotsford.
