Snowfall expected for Coquihalla over the weekend, heaviest snow on Sunday: Environment Canada

KAMLOOPS — The Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt can expect another night of heavy snow.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Saturday (Feb. 26) morning that forecast 15 to 25 centimetres of snow for the stretch of Highway 5 between Saturday night and Sunday (Feb. 27) afternoon. It adds that the heaviest snowfall is expected Sunday as a series of Pacific systems will impact Interior highways.

Drivers are told to adjust their driving with changing road conditions as rapidly accumulating snow will reduce visibility and make travel difficult. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous conditions.

For travellers heading east, the Trans Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass is expected to see heavy snowfall on Monday (Feb. 28).
