KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say one man was injured, and a suspect was taken into custody after a failed robbery attempt.

In a release, police say around 11 a.m Thursday (Feb. 24), officers were called to the 400 block of Tranquille Road where a man had been injured with a knife after another man allegedly tried to steal his vehicle.

“Police officers strategically responded to the area and recognized a man matching the description provided, visibly armed with a knife,” says Inspector Jeff Pelley. “Recognizing the high-risk situation, a brief standoff occurred before a conductive energy device was effectively deployed, quickly immobilizing the suspect and allowing officers to safely take him into custody without injury to the suspect, or further harm to others.”

The victim was given medical treatment for minor injuries, while the suspect is being held in custody pending a court appearance for multiple offences related to the incident.
