WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Three Cariboo airports received federal funding on Tuesday (Feb. 22).

Quesnel Regional Airport received $326,518, while Williams Lake Regional Airport received $130,000 and Cariboo Regional Airport in Anahim Lake received $54,720. It comes from the near $19 million in Regional Air Transportation Initiative funding from the federal government.

“Air transportation is essential to community well-being and regional economic development,” Harhit Sajjan, minister of international development and minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Developmment Agency of Canada says. “Today’s announcement will not only enhance airport safety and support our essential services but will also create jobs that British Columbians can rely on and bolster regional growth as we recover from the effects of the pandemic.”

The funding is intended to ensure airports and carriers can continue essential routine maintenance and facility operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
