COVID-19 hospitalizations dip again in B.C.

VICTORIA — B.C.’s COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to decrease.

According to the Ministry of Health on Wednesday (Feb. 16), B.C. reports 762 COVID-19 hospitalizations, a decrease of 25 since Tuesday (Feb. 15). Of those patients, 121 are in intensive care, a decrease of three.

Between Feb. 1 and 14, B.C. reported 954 COVID-19 hospitalizations. The fully-vaccinated population accounted for 648 of those (67.9 per cent), the unvaccinated 267 (28 per cent) and the partially vaccinated 39 (4.1 per cent).

However, per 100,000 population adjusting for age, 72.1 patients were unvaccinated, 32.9 were partially vaccinated and 13.8 were fully vaccinated.

In the past 24 hours, 11 new deaths were reported – one of them in Interior Health – for a provincial total of 2,777.

No new COVID-19 outbreaks were declared at healthcare facilities. There are 36 active provincial outbreaks, including Overlander Residential Care and Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops and Hillside Village in Salmon Arm.

There were 750 reported COVID-19 cases for Wednesday, with 277 of them in Interior Health.

As of Wednesday, 90.4 per cent (4,507,718) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 85.4 per cent (4,256,399) have received their second.

Additionally, 53.3 per cent (2,468,653) of British Columbians 12 and older have received a third dose.
