B.C. reports no new COVID-19 deaths; 50 per cent of residents 12 and older have received third vaccine dose

VICTORIA — No new COVID-19 deaths were reported in B.C. for Tuesday (Feb. 8), leaving the provincial death toll at 2,707.

Additionally, a news release from B.C.’s Ministry of Health states COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased by one from Monday to 986, while intensive care patients went up by five to 146.

Between Jan. 24 and Feb. 6, B.C. reported 1,091 COVID-19 hospitalizations. The fully-vaccinated population accounted for 750 of those (68.7 per cent), the unvaccinated 287 (26.3 per cent) and the partially vaccinated 54 (five per cent).

However, per 100,000 population adjusting for age, 77.1 patients were unvaccinated, 44.3 were partially vaccinated and 16 were fully vaccinated.

One new COVID-19 outbreak was declared at a health care facility in Island Health for an active provincial total of 55, including Overlander Residential Care and Pondarosa Lodge in Kamloops and Mount Ida Mews in Salmon Arm.

There were 1,117 reported COVID-19 cases for Tuesday, with 376 of them in Interior Health. Reported active cases sit at 24,372 in the province and 7,844 in Interior Health.

As of Tuesday, 90.3 per cent (4,499,531) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 84.7 per cent (4,221,630) have received their second dose.

Additionally, 50.2 per cent (2,327,036) of British Columbians 12 and older have received a third dose.
