SD73 to implement COVID-19 vaccine policy for employees

KAMLOOPS — A proof of COVID-19 vaccination policy for School District 73 (SD73) employees will be implemented by May 9, 2022.

The SD73 Board of Education announced it directed Superintendent Dr. Rhonda Nixon to do so during Monday’s (Feb. 7) public board meeting. Board Chair Heather Grieve states the board will provide rapid testing to employees who choose not to be vaccinated or have medical reasons.

“We will work through necessary steps to operationalize this procedure… our board will take a ‘stepped approach’ in mitigating staff shortages and ensuring continuity of learning for students,” Grieve says.

The district states the vaccination policy is an important step for staff and students’ safety. A report from the SD73 board showed student absenteeism exceeded the seasonal average of 14 per cent on all but two school days in January.
