KAMLOOPS — Five Kamloops-area residents are facing charges after a nearly two-year RCMP drug investigation led to the seizure of huge quantities of illicit drugs.

In a news release, Cst. Crystal Evelyn of Kamloops RCMP says the detachment’s Targeted Enforcement Unit (TEU) launched the investigation in April, 2020.

Three months later, officers raided a home in the 600-block of Comox Avenue, finding cocaine, fentanyl and a loaded prohibited gun — a .22 LR calibre Savage model A22 semi-automatic rifle.

That’s when investigators identified a drug pipeline between New Westminster and Kamloops.

Working together with New Westminster Police Department officers, Mounties arrested a Cherry Creek man in August, seizing one kilogram of cocaine.

Another Kamloops man was arrested in September, 2020, as he returned from New Westminster. A further two kilograms of cocaine were seized, and a search of the man’s home in the 1300-block of Kinross Place yielded two kilos of methamphetamine and one more kilogram of cocaine. Clues led officers to a home in the 100-block of Holloway Drive in Tobiano, where more drugs were found.

“The impact of stopping those drugs from ever hitting the streets of Kamloops is immeasurable,” Sgt. Todd Woon of the TEU. “Interrupting the supply chains into Kamloops helps prevent organized crime from developing a strong presence and increasing violence in the community.”

That same month, New Westminster officers raided a home in that city, finding 13 kilograms of cocaine, 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, two handguns and about $300,000 in cash.

The following people are facing charges in relation to this investigation:

  • Lawrence Lloyd Pooli, 31, of Kamloops
  • David Jeffrey Tremblay, 36, of Kamloops
  • Rylee Laureen Bains, 24, of Kamloops
  • Jason Ray Sauka, 50, of Cherry Creek
