COVID-19 hospitalizations ease slightly, remain above 1,000

VICTORIA — B.C.’s Ministry of Health reports 1,035 COVID-19 hospitalizations for Tuesday (Feb. 1), a decrease of 13 since Monday.

Of those patients, 139 are in intensive care, a slight increase of one.

Between Jan. 17 and 30, B.C. reported 1,129 COVID-19 hospitalizations. The fully-vaccinated population accounted for 781 of those (69.2 per cent), the unvaccinated 297 (26.3 per cent), and the partially vaccinated 51 (4.5 per cent).

However, per 100,000 population adjusting for age, 75.4 patients were unvaccinated, 41.5 were partially vaccinated, and 16.7 were fully vaccinated.

In the past 24 hours, nine new COVID-19 deaths were reported – none in Interior Health – for a provincial total of 2,625.

There are 1,236 new reported COVID-19 cases for Tuesday, including 406 in Interior Health. Reported active cases increased to 28,302 (up by 848 since Monday) in B.C. and 7,949 in Interior Health (up by 360).

New COVID-19 outbreaks were declared at two healthcare facilities, none in Kamloops and area. There are 55 active outbreaks in B.C., including Overlander Residential Care and Pine Grove Care Centre in Kamloops and Mount Ida Mews in Salmon Arm.

As of Monday, 89.9 per cent (4,481,509) of eligible residents five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 84 per cent (4,187,417) have received both.

Additionally, 46.4 per cent (2,152,427) of British Columbians 12 and older have received a third dose.
