COVID-19 hospitalizations jump to 534 in B.C.

VICTORIA — B.C.’s health ministry is reporting another sharp increase in the number of patients hospitalized due to COVID-19.

In a release issued Thursday (Jan. 13), the ministry says there are 534 people in hospital with the virus, an increase of 34 from Wednesday.

Of those in hospital, 102 are in intensive care, unchanged from Wednesday.

Seven more people have died of the virus in the past day, raising the B.C. death toll to 2,462.

The province registered 2,554 new people who have tested positive for the virus Thursday, including 462 in Interior Health.

Of all British Columbians aged five and older who are eligible for vaccination against COVID-19, 88.9 per cent have received their first dose, while 83.3 per cent have received two doses. Of those 12 and older eligible for their third dose, 29.2 per cent have received it.
