COVID-19 hospitalizations up by nearly 40, three new deaths reported in B.C.

KAMLOOPS — The B.C. Ministry of Health reports that COVID-19 hospitalizations have increased to 469 on Tuesday (Jan. 11), up by 38 since Monday.

Of those patients, 97 are in intensive care, up by two.

Between Dec. 27 and Jan. 9, B.C. reported 422 COVID-19 hospitalizations. The fully vaccinated population accounted for 272 of those (64.4 per cent), the unvaccinated 135 (32 per cent), and the partially vaccinated 15 (3.6 per cent).

However, per 100,000 population adjusting for age, 33.1 patients were unvaccinated, 11.7 were partially vaccinated, and 5.8 were fully vaccinated.

Three new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, one in Interior Health, for a provincial total of 2,449.

There were 2,239 COVID-19 cases reported on Tuesday, with 318 of them in Interior Health. Reported active cases increased to 36,087 in B.C. (up by 1,536) and 4,102 in Interior Health (up by 193).

Elsewhere, there were 807 new reported cases in Fraser Health (15,988 active), 562 in Island Health (4,330), 383 in Vancouver Coastal Health (10,334), and 167 in Northern Health (1,136).

Four new outbreaks have been identified at healthcare facilities in B.C., none in Interior Health. There are 45 active outbreaks in the province, including Ridgeview Lodge in Kamloops, Mount Cartier Court in Revelstoke, and Sun Pointe Village in Kelowna.

As of Tuesday, 88.8 per cent (4,426,451) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 83.2 per cent (4,146,540) have received their second. Additionally, 26.8 per cent of residents 12 and older (1,239,995) have received a third dose.
