Kamloops’ Gobeil nabs Canada West Player of the Week honours

KAMLOOPS — A pair of powerful performances over the weekend have nabbed Kamloops athlete Maddy Gobeil Canada West Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week honours.

The 2nd-year guard and South Kam Alumnus led the UFV Cascades to a pair of wins over the UBCO Heat. On Saturday (Jan. 8), Gobeil dropped 18 points, nabbed 10 rebounds, and added five assists as the Cascades prevailed 75-69 over UBCO. In the rematch on Sunday (Jan. 9), Gobeil scored 16 points, added 13 rebounds, and added 8 steals and a pair of assists.

The 8 steals on Sunday was a season-high in Canada West and shot Gobeil into the top spot in both Canada West and U SPORTS in that statistical category.

The games marked Gobeil’s first action for the Cascades since well before the holiday break, as she had been sidelined due to injury.

Maddy and the Cascades will be in Kamloops to take on the TRU WolfPack on Thursday, February 3rd at the Tournament Capital Centre. The men’s game will start at 6:00 pm, with the women’s game to follow at 8:00 pm.
