Salmon Arm Mountie tracks down arson suspect, performs life-saving CPR
SALMON ARM, B.C. — An RCMP officer in Salmon Arm is being credited with saving the life of an arson suspect.
Early Saturday morning (Jan. 8), firefighters called Mounties to help with a house fire on Second Nations Road. Two people escaped the burning building.
RCMP say an officer tracked a set of footprints in the snow leading away from the home into the bush. After following the trail for two kilometres, the officer found a man lying unconscious in the snow.
The man was in poor shape, prompting the Mountie to start CPR. The officer continued to administer CPR for about an hour until volunteers from Salmon Arm Search and Rescue arrived. Eventually, the man was taken by ambulance to a waiting helicopter, which airlifted him to hospital in Kelowna.
