CP Women’s Open donates $557,000 to Royal Inland Hospital’s cardiac department

KAMLOOPS — The Canadian Pacific Women’s Open Golf Tournament is donating $557,000 to Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) through its ‘CP Has Heart’ initiative.

The initiative raises money to improve the heart health of men, women and children in North America.

The big donation will support a renovation and equipment for the new cardiac department at RIH.

“Really there’s a wide variety of equipment needs that we can always use the funds for,” explained Dr. Todd Ring, Chief of Staff at RIH.

“New treadmills in our cardiac testing department, new monitors, telemetry in the patient care tower, a 3D ultrasound machine — so when our cardiologists are doing ultrasounds on the heart, they can generate the best image quality they can,” he continued.

Dr. Ring says the hospital’s cardiology department is still relatively new with a talented group of young cardiologists who want to provide quality care to their patients.

“Really its allowing them to have access to the equipment that allows them to provide the level of care that they want to be able to provide, which is standard of care everywhere else in the world,” Ring added.

“So we should have those same standards here in Kamloops and our surrounding communities,” he said.

Also through the CP Heart Initiative, the CP Women’s Open will donate more than $2.8 million to support important equipment purchases and research at BC Children’s Hospital.
