City of Kamloops expects another lengthy snow removal effort

KAMLOOPS — Following a dump of snow from Friday (Dec. 17) evening to Saturday (Dec. 18) morning, and more flurries expected throughout the day, the City of Kamloops could see snow removal efforts last until Tuesday.

Kamloops’ Streets and Environmental Service Manager Glen Farrow says the focus during snow, and four hours after it concludes, is the city’s main roads: Aberdeen Drive, Pacific Way, Hugh Allan Drive, Columbia Street, and Tranquille Road. However, he adds the city’s snow equipment will target bus routes once a main road has been plowed, salted, and sanded during snow.

“As more snow comes today and extends the event, we will re-focus back on those main roads,” Farrow says. “Cul-de-sacs and flat streets… we will not be on local streets on Saturday. We will be moving to those Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.”

While Kamloops’ roads see sections with snow caked on the surface, Farrow says there are icy conditions as well due to snow melting from the salt and hardening in temperatures below zero.
