KAMLOOPS — The spirit of giving is alive and well at Dallas Elementary School in Kamloops.

Students have been hard at work gathering toys and other donations for the Salvation Army’s hamper campaign this year.

Today (Dec. 13), one of Santa’s elves – Roger Red Beard (also known as Vice Principal Roy Styles) – came to collect the donations to deliver to the Salvation Army.

“There’s a lot of us elves that go around and we visit the elementary schools, and we hear some of the amazing things that are happening. And this school this year has blown us away,” he told CFJC Today, “Last year was an amazing year, they raised over $1,700 towards their toy drive for the Salvation Army. So this year they raised over $1,800.”

The school-wide effort was led by the leadership students in Jodi Saemerow’s class. Students Erica Lester, Elli Ross, Adriana Willems, Rachel Charon, and Aubrey Emsland were busy loading the toys into Roger the Elf’s pickup truck to be delivered to the Salvation Army today.

The toy drive is just one of several ways the school has given back to the community in the past year. Dallas Elementary also took part in fundraising and collecting item donations for wildfire evacuees in the summer, and Merritt evacuees this fall.
