Blazers fire 50 shots on net, fall 3-2 to Cougars

KAMLOOPS — For the second weekend in a row, the Kamloops Blazers dropped back-to-back games. They’ve now lost four of their last five.

However, Saturday’s (Dec. 11) 3-2 road loss to the Prince George Cougars wasn’t due to a lack of effort. The Blazers fired 50 shots on Cougars goaltender Taylor Gauthier. Only a jam in from Matthew Seminoff and a wrist shot from Reese Belton are the bottom of the circle went in.

Despite their coldest stretch of the 2021-22 Western Hockey League (WHL) season, the Blazers’ cushion they gave themselves to start the year is paying dividends. Kamloops is 18-6-0 on the season with 36 points in 24 games, good for first in the B.C. Division and second in the WHL Western Conference.

The Blazers will need their “A” game on Wednesday (Dec. 15) when they welcome the Victoria Royals to the Sandman Centre. While Victoria is eighth in the Western Conference, they’re the hottest team in the WHL, having won seven games and picking up a point in two overtime losses in their last nine.
