BC reports 341 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, nine new virus-related deaths

VICTORIA — The BC Government says the numbers are provisional, but the province recorded 341 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and nine new deaths.

In an emailed update today (Dec. 9), the Ministry of Health says the numbers of total and new cases are provisional due to a delayed data refresh and will be verified once confirmed.

Of the new cases, the Interior saw 70 new COVID-19 cases. The Interior now has 576 active cases (down by 4), while the province recorded 2,915 active cases (up by 41).

Of the active cases, 220 people are hospitalized, with 73 in intensive care.

The new/active cases include:

  • 83 new cases in Fraser Health. Total active cases: 881
  • 61 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health. Total active cases: 538
  • 70 new cases in Interior Health. Total active cases: 576
  • 29 new cases in Northern Health. Total active cases: 262
  • 98 new cases in Island Health. Total active cases: 606
  • no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada. Total active cases: two (Note: 50 cases are reflected on the BCCDC dashboard due to a data reconciliation and are no longer active.)

In the past 24 hours, nine new deaths have been reported, for an overall total of 2,378. One of the new deaths was within Interior Health.

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks, for a total of five facilities with ongoing outbreaks, including the outbreak at Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops.

As of Thursday, 85.9 per cent (4,281,608) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 82.1 per cent (4,094,539) have received their second dose.
