Florentine opening second floor to displaced Merritt residents

MERRITT, B.C. — The Florentine in Merritt is looking to help displaced Merritt residents by opening up their second floor to evacuees who have lost their homes.

President Frank Rizzardo addressed the process of helping out the community.

“We have the entire second floor, which was the complex floor. We’re making those 20 rooms available,” Rizzardo said. “Our intention is to try and help those who have lost their residence and need considerable amounts of time to get organized.”

Because the Florentine is a care facility, it falls under Interior Health and Provincial Health Office (PHO) guidelines. Which includes everybody entering the building having two doses of COVID-19 vaccine and undergoing a daily health check.

“We can’t allow pets in the building, and we need to ensure the safety and security of the residents needs to be foremost,” Rizzardo added. “We will be doing criminal record checks and the standard requirements for PHO and licensing regulations, so that we keep seniors that are there now as safe as possible.”

Anybody looking to stay at the Florentine must go through the ESS process and fill out an application.
