B.C records slight increase in active COVID-19 case count, decrease in provincial hospitalizations

VICTORIA ā€” B.Cā€™s Ministry of Health is reporting a slight increase in active COVID-19 cases today ā€“ both provincially and regionally.

In an update today (Dec. 3), the province says there are now 3,071 active cases across B.C (up by 51). This includes 585 active cases within Interior Health (up by 8). There have also been six new virus-related deaths in the last day, for an overall total of 2,351.

In the past 24 hours there have been 405 new COVID-19 cases in the province, 97 of which were identified in Interior Health.

Of the active cases, 276 people are in hospital (down by 8), and 95 are in intensive care (down by 2).

The new/active cases include:

  • 110 new cases in Fraser Health * total active cases: 990
  • 45 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health * total active cases: 498
  • 97 new cases in Interior Health * total active cases: 585
  • 57 new cases in Northern Health * total active cases: 351
  • 96 new cases in Island Health * total active cases: 646
  • no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada * total active cases: one

As of Friday, 85.1 per cent (4,240,459) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 81.8 per cent (4,079,299) have received their second dose.

One new health-care facility outbreak has been officially identified at Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops. There are now five facilities with ongoing outbreaks within Fraser Health, Interior Health, Vancouver Coastal Health, and Northern Health.
