Halsey’s Album and Film and How They Came Together
Halsey’s new release, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, became a “concept album” as a result of working on the film at the same time. She says she always wanted to do both, but the money wasn’t there.
She said, “This was the thing where it was like, ‘OK, people want to give you money to make art – what are you going to make?’”
In an interview with NME, she said that the most important thing to her, was that the album had “tension” and it needed to be “visceral.”
About the benefits of making the album in tandem with the visual, she said… “You’re not going back and draw connections that aren’t there and trying to fill in holes to make stuff work. All of it is so cohesive and coherent the entire time.”
