B.C. reports 970 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, drop in active cases

VICTORIA — B.C. reported 970 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend (Nov. 26 to 29) with 189 of them in Interior Health.

Active cases decreased to 2,882 in the province (down by 153 since Nov. 26) and 534 in Interior Health (down by 59). Of the provincial active cases, 303 patients are in hospital (up by 12), with 115 of them in intensive care (unchanged).

The three-day breakdown is as follows:

  • Nov. 26 to 27: 389 new cases
  • Nov. 27 to 28: 309 new cases
  • Nov. 28 to 29: 272 new cases

Elsewhere, 306 new cases were reported in Fraser Health (1,015 active), 238 in Island Health (539), 134 in Northern health (398), and 103 in Vancouver Coastal Health (396).

In the past 72 hours, 11 new deaths were reported, four of them in Interior Health, for a provincial total of 2,333.

No new healthcare facility outbreaks were declared. There are six total outbreaks, none of them are in Interior Health.

As of Monday, 91.1 per cent (4,223,237) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 87.8 per cent (4,067,778) received their second.

Vaccine status

B.C. reported 2,464 COVID-19 cases between Nov. 19 and 25. Of them, 1,367 were unvaccinated (55.5 per cent), 1,010 were fully vaccinated (41 per cent), and 87 were partially vaccinated (3.5 per cent). Per 100,000 population after adjusting for age, the unvaccinated population accounted for 182, partially vaccinated 40.3, and fully vaccinated 22.6 cases.

Between Nov. 12 and 25, B.C. hospitals took in 284 patients who were positive with COVID-19. Of them, 175 of them were unvaccinated (61.6 per cent), 93 were fully vaccinated (32.7 per cent), and 16 were partially vaccinated (5.6 per cent). Per 100,000 population after adjusting for age, the unvaccinated population accounted for 37, partially vaccinated 10.3, and fully vaccinated two hospitalizations.
