Weekend calls for Kamloops RCMP include weapons seizure, shot fired report, and alleged threats

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP responded to approximately 334 calls for service from midnight on Friday (Nov. 19), to 9:00 a.m. on Monday (Nov. 22). Below are some highlights from those reports.

Weapons located in traffic stop

Kamloops RCMP say Saturday morning patrols on McGill Road led to the seizure of several weapons from a vehicle.

Police say around 3:00 a.m. on Nov. 20, an officer saw a suspicious car parked on Cariboo Place, and shortly after, RCMP conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle on McGill Road. A can of bear spray was seen inside the vehicle, which police seized, along with a taser and other weapons.

Police vehicle spat in, officers threatened during apprehension

Police say a Saturday (Nov. 20) afternoon call involving a mental health crisis led to an attempted assault against officers.

Around 3:35 p.m Saturday, RCMP were called to an address in Barnhartvale for a report involving an intoxicated and emotionally distraught person. The woman was apprehended under the Mental Health Act, and she allegedly threatened officers, tried to physically assault them and spat in the police vehicle.

RCMP say she was arrested and lodged in cells and was assessed by a mental health professional before being released. No criminal charges are being pursued.

Heavy police presence on Victoria Street

Kamloops RCMP say a heavy police presence in downtown Kamloops Saturday night was related to a shots-fired report. Around 9:00 p.m Nov. 20, police received a report of a shot hear at an address along the 700-block of Victoria Street, which brought numerous RCMP officers to the area.

The report stated the sound came from inside a building, but further investigation revealed the noise came from the outside. The Police Dog Service Unit also searched the area, but nothing was located to substantiate the source of the sound. Investigators are still reviewing surveillance in the area, so anyone with information or video is asked to please contact Kamloops RCMP and reference file number 2021-40613.

Knife seized following threats report

RCMP are seeking witnesses after a reported threats incident Sunday afternoon (Nov. 21) on Tranquille Road.

Police say around 1:45 p.m Sunday, officers attended a commercial location in the 800-block of Tranquille for a report of a man with a weapon who was threatening customers.

Officers arrived on scene and arrested a man matching the description provided, but did not find any of the alleged victims, or witnesses. As such, the man was taken to cells for public intoxication and later released.
