B.C. records 1,052 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, decrease in active caseload

VICTORIA — B.C. health officials say the province recorded 1,052 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, along with ten new deaths.

In a release sent Monday evening (Nov. 23), the Ministry of Health says the cases were reported over a three-day period, as follows:

  • Nov. 19-20: 390 new cases
  • Nov. 20-21: 332 new cases
  • Nov. 21-22: 330 new cases

The province says there are now 3,132 active cases around British Columbia (down by 288 from Friday). Of these, 337 people are in hospital (down by 21), and 115 are in intensive care (up by six). The rest are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Interior Health recorded 227 new cases over the same three-day recording period, and currently has 589 active COVID-19 cases (down by 68 from Friday). Interior Health was also the only health authority that did not record any virus-related deaths in the past 72 hours.

The province says there have been no new health-care facility outbreaks, however four separate outbreaks at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops are ongoing.

  • Unit 5S has 29 cases: 21 patients and eight staff/other with two deaths connected to the outbreak.
  • Unit 7N has six cases: five patients and one staff/other with one death connected to the outbreak.
  • Unit 6S has 10 patient cases.
  • Unit 5N has 11 cases: six patients and five staff/other.

As of Monday, 90.9 per cent (4,213,371) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 87.3 per cent (4,047,568) have received their second dose.
