Interior Health reports second death associated with RIH outbreak, B.C. reports 992 new cases over two days

KAMLOOPS — Interior Health says there are now two deaths associated with the RIH 5 South unit outbreak, an increase of one since Wednesday, along with 26 total cases (19 patients and seven staff/other).

There are eight patient cases associated with 6 South and four patient cases associated with 7 North. Six cases – four residents and two staff – have been associated with Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre.

The province reported 992 new COVID-19 cases for Thursday and Friday (Nov. 11 and 12), with 263 of them in Interior Health.

Active cases slightly decreased to 4,265 in the province (down by 56 since Wednesday) but increased to 862 in Interior Health (up by 96).

Hospitalizations went down across the province once more. Of the active cases, 384 patients are in hospital (down by 20), but patients in intensive care increased to 124 (up by seven). The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Elsewhere, there were 308 new cases in Fraser Health (1,575 active), 166 in Northern Health (645), 138 in Island Health (614), and 117 in Vancouver Coastal Health (510).

Twenty-three new deaths were reported in the last 48 hours, two of them in Interior Health for a provincial total of 2,257.

As of Friday, 90.6 per cent (4,198,575) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 86.5 per cent (4,010,702) received their second dose.
