Men’s WolfPack basketball team splits weekend at UNBC, women lose both games

KAMLOOPS — Both the men and women Thompson Rivers University (TRU) basketball teams travelled to Prince George over the weekend for a pair of games against the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC).

The male WolfPack team won their first game over the Timberwolves Friday 68-57. Simon Crossfield scored 17 points – including five three-pointers – and added seven rebounds and four steals.

However, the T-Wolves flipped the script on Saturday with a 69-57 win. The WolfPack couldn’t claw back after trailing 23-12 after the first quarter. Brendan Sullivan and Brad King each scored 14 points in the effort.

The men WolfPack are middle of the pack after splitting their weekend. They’re 2-2 on the young Canada West season, tied for third in the West Division.

However, the women WolfPack were not as fortunate, dropping both their games against the T-Wolves by scores of 68-51 on Friday and 88-46 on Saturday.

Friday’s contest was a close five-point game until the fourth quarter, when UNBC outscored TRU 26-14.

UNBC kept the momentum from the fourth quarter bleeding into Saturday. While TRU kept it a five-point game after the first quarter, UNBC blew the doors open with 70 points in the final three compared to TRU’s 33.

The women WolfPack are 0-4 on the season, which is last in the West Division.

Both WolfPack squads continue their season this weekend (Nov. 12 and 13) in Abbotsford when they take on the University of Fraser Valley.
