KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: The provincial health ministry has confirmed the outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital.

EARLIER: Interior Health says it is in the process of declaring a COVID-19 outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital.

In an email to CFJC Today, IH says the outbreak will be declared on 5 South, which is a medical unit of the facility.

IH says asymptomatic testing is still taking place and it expects the details of patient and staff cases to be revealed tomorrow.

In the meantime, the unit is not accepting new admissions and an outbreak management team is “working to support the unit, hospital, staff and patients.”

Anyone needing emergency care is encouraged to visit the hospital.

The other ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in Kamloops is at Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre.
