B.C. finds 584 COVID-19 cases; indoor mask mandate extended indefinitely

VICTORIA — B.C. is reporting 584 new cases of COVID-19 Friday (Oct. 29), including 85 in Interior Health.

The totals are included in an update from the province’s health ministry.

There are now 4,982 active cases in B.C., with 684 in IH — second-lowest among the province’s five health regional authorities.

The province reports 436 people in hospital with COVID-19, with 156 in intensive care.

Nine more people have died of the virus in the past 24 hours, raising the province’s death toll to 2,156.

Eighty-five per cent of all eligible British Columbians aged 12 and over are now fully vaccinated. The proportion with one dose has reached 89.8 per cent.

Meantime, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has extended the province’s indoor mask mandate indefinitely. It was set to end on Oct. 31.

And British Columbians can now access the federal proof-of-vaccination if they wish to travel. It will be required for travel within Canada by air, rail or cruise ship beginning Saturday (Oct. 30).
