B.C. reports 560 new COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations up by 22

VICTORIA — B.C. reported 560 new cases of COVID-19 for Tuesday (Oct. 19), with 79 of them in Interior Health.

The active COVID-19 case count decreased marginally to 4,913 in B.C. (down by four), as did the active count in Interior Health at 772 (down by five). Of the provincial active cases, 382 are in hospital – up by 22 since Monday – with 146 of them in intensive care (down by five). The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Elsewhere, there were 208 new COVID-19 cases reported in Fraser Health (2,052 active), 131 in Northern Health (797), 80 in Vancouver Coastal Health (717) and 61 in Island Health (516). There was one new case of a person who resides outside of Canada for an active total of 59.

In the past 24 hours, five new COVID-19 deaths were reported, for an overall total of 2,086. None of the new deaths were in Interior Health.

B.C. declared one new healthcare facility outbreak at The Emerald at Elim Village (Fraser Health), for a total of 23 active outbreaks, with four of them in Interior Health. The outbreak at Overlander Residential Care in Kamloops is still active.

As of Tuesday (Oct. 19) 89.2 per cent (4,136,000) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 83.5 per cent (3,870,709) have received their second.
