Pedestrian killed in late night crash along Alberni Hwy. near Parksville

PARKSVILLE — One person is dead after a pedestrian was hit by a motorist in Errington.

Emergency services were called to the Alberni Highway near Fairdowne Rd. just after 10 p.m. after reports of a pedestrian being hit on the highway.

RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson told NanaimoNewsNOW a police investigation is underway after the pedestrian, a man in his 30’s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Causal factors are yet to be determined but that this time there is no indication there is any sign of impairment with respect to this investigation.”

BC Emergency Health Services confirmed their paramedics attended but no patient was transported to hospital.

Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Travis Strong said the man was not local to the Oceanside area, with notification of next of kin still ongoing.

The vehicle, a compact car, was traveling westbound on the highway.

Hwy. 4A was closed for several hours as police worked on scene. Crews re-opened it around 4:45 a.m.
