B.C. reports 605 new COVID-19 cases, 119 in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. reported 605 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday (Oct. 13), with 119 of them in Interior Health.

There are 5,172 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. (down by 11), with 850 of them in Interior Health (up by nine). Of the provincial active cases, 374 are in hospital (up by 17) with 153 of them in intensive care (unchanged). The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Four new COVID-19 deaths have been reported, three in Northern Health and one in Island Health, for a provincial total of 2,033.

Elsewhere, there were 245 new cases in Fraser Health (2,214 active), 92 in Island Health (640 active), 82 in Vancouver Coastal Health (721 active) and 67 in Northern Health (689 active). There were no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada, although that active count is at 58.

There was one new health-care facility outbreak declared at Tofino General Hospital (Island Health). There are 19 active outbreaks in B.C., with five of them in Interior Health, including Overlander Longterm Care.

As of Wednesday, 88.9 per cent (4,120,063) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 82.7 per cent (3,835,508) have received their second.

Vaccine status

There were 4,206 COVID-19 cases between Oct. 5 and 11; 61.1 per cent were unvaccinated (2,571), 32 per cent were fully vaccinated (1,344), and 6.9 per cent were partially vaccinated (291). Per 100,000 population, the unvaccinated population accounted for 278.3, partially vaccinated 80.5 and fully vaccinated 32.1 after adjusting for age.

Between Sept. 28 and Oct. 11, 346 people in B.C. were hospitalized; 229 (66.2 per cent) were unvaccinated, 92 (26.6 per cent) were fully vaccinated and 25 (7.2 per cent) were partially vaccinated. Per 100,000 population, the unvaccinated population accounted for 36.7, partially vaccinated 10.7 and fully vaccinated 2.1 after adjusting for age.
