B.C. averages 662 COVID-19 cases daily over the weekend; active caseload declines

VICTORIA — B.C. reported 1,986 new cases of COVID-19 over the past three days, an average of 662 new cases per day.

The new totals are contained in an update from the province’s health ministry Monday (Oct. 4).

Within Interior Health, there were 414 new cases over the weekend.

Active cases have dropped to 5,986, including 1,132 within Interior Health.

There are now 326 people in hospital with COVID-19 and 142 in intensive care.

Ten more people have died of the virus, raising the provincial death toll to 1,983. One of the deaths was an Interior Health resident.

There are 20 active healthcare facility outbreaks in B.C., including Royal Inland Hospital (two cases), The Hamlets at Westsyde (six cases) and Overlander Longterm Care (22 cases, two deaths).

Vaccination rates have risen among eligible British Columbians aged 12 and older to 88.2 per cent for one dose and 81.6 per cent for two doses.
