Open burning permitted in Kamloops Fire Centre as weather conditions cool
KAMLOOPS — All Category Two and Three open burning, as well as other equipment and activities, will once again be permitted throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.
The open burning prohibition will be lifted at noon on Friday (Sept. 24), which previously banned the use of fireworks, sky lanterns, binary exploding targets, burn barrels and burn cages. The Kamloops Fire Centre extends from the northern border of Wells Gray Provincial Park to the U.S. border in the south, and from the Bridge River Glacier west of Gold Bridge to the Monashee Mountains east of Lumby.
BC Wildfire Service says recent and forecast weather conditions that include cooler temperatures, higher humidity and substantial precipitation have dropped the Kamloops Fire Centre’s fire danger rating.
Anyone who does open burning are asked to use caution and be aware of local conditions that might impact their ability to burn safely and control their open fires and comply with B.C.’s air quality control legislation.
