“This is huge for sure, an opportunity to get a direct entry into the trials is really great. We would be bypassing the pre-trials, which would be ideal,” said Brown from her hotel room in Ottawa. “It’s a really cool experience to be a part of. The Olympics are always something I’ve dreamt of ever since I was a little kid, so to have it be a possibility is really exciting.”

The Canadian Curling Trials Direct-Entry event features five teams with three earning berths in the Olympic Trials in Saskatoon Nov. 20-28.

“The field’s really solid. We’ve played [Casey] Scheidegger twice and Laura Walker twice this season already, so two of the teams that will be here we’ve played,” noted Brown. “We’ve played Suzanne Birt throughout the years and Kelsey Rocque. So definitely, we’re no strangers to them, but it’s just going to be who brings their A-games.”

Team Brown comes into the tournament playing well. It’s played in a couple events this season, winning in Leduc, Alberta before losing to Laura Walker in a semi-final in Edmonton.

“So really great start to our season. We just have to bring that momentum. We’re all playing really well. We have really good team dynamics going on right now.”

It’s the same team that went to this year’s Scotties with Sam Fisher the lead, Dazaray Hawes the second and Erin Pincott the third. Brown says the team’s recent experience at big events will be a real asset in trying to squeak into the top three this week.

“I think we’ve played a lot of these teams in high-stakes games, so I think that’ll be really great to pull from that experience, and just being on arena ice and having a bit more of that pressure I think will really work in our favour,” noted Brown.

The Brown rink opens the tournament at 1 p.m. Pacific Time on Thursday against Suzanne Birt. All of Brown’s draws can be followed through Curling Canada.
