BCNU president resigns for “personal reasons”

KAMLOOPS — The BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) president has stepped down.

In a news release late Monday (Sept. 20) evening, BCNU states Christine Sorensen has resigned “for personal reasons and to pursue other opportunities.”

The resignation comes a week after BCNU Vice President Aman Grewal told CFJC Today that some nurses were “already starting to resign” after Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced it will be mandatory for anyone working in a healthcare facility to be vaccinated by Oct. 26. It also comes after the nursing shortage at Royal Inland Hospital came under the microscope.

BCNU did not announce who would replace Sorensen as president.
