Volunteers patrol Valleyview parking lot for bait after busy week for thieves

KAMLOOPS — Volunteers with the City of Kamloops and RCMP officers patrolled Valleyview Square on Thursday (Sept. 17) to educate drivers on removing theft bait from their vehicles.

The Lock Out Auto Crime event followed a week when more than 50 thefts from motor vehicles were reported in Kamloops, mostly in the downtown area. To help drivers understand the importance of keeping valuables out of sight, RCMP say the Lock Out Auto Crime team issued crime prevention notices and spoke with pedestrians and drivers in the area.

One of the volunteers on Thursday was Luci Tremblay, where she looked into the window of a white car parked outside of a hardware store and could clearly see a wallet and lottery ticket on the front seat.

“They will go for less than that – they’ll go for 25 cents,” Tremblay said while speaking about the abundance of loonies and toonies spotted inside parked vehicles.
