KAMLOOPS — Customers visiting BC Liquor Stores (BCLS) and BC Cannabis Stores (BCCS) donated more than $1.45 million to the Canadian Red Cross to assist B.C. residents affected by this year’s wildfires.

The amount raised by customers will be matched by both the B.C. and federal governments for a total exceeding $4.35 million.

According to the B.C. government, Kamloops had the highest-raising BCCS location. The store at Columbia Place raised $12,165 – approximately one-fifth of the province’s $62,687 raised. Kamloops was followed up by Campbell River raising $8,631 and Fort St. John raising $5,817.

Salmon Arm had the second highest-raising BCLS at $41,581. Penticton Plaza was first raising $46,261 and Langley was third raising $39,599.

The province says funds raised will help the Canadian Red Cross support immediate and ongoing relief efforts in B.C. communities affected by wildfires, as well as support long-term recovery, resiliency and preparedness for future events in B.C. and affected regions.
