Missing Cache Creek-area elder found dead

CACHE CREEK, B.C. — There is a sad end to the search for a missing elder near Cache Creek.

Joseph Zabotel, 75, was reported missing on August 29 from his home between Cache Creek and Lillooet along Highway 99.

At the time, RCMP considered it a “high risk” missing person case because Zabotel suffered from dementia and was improperly clothed for being out in the cool weather.

In a brief update issued Monday (Sept. 13), Ashcroft RCMP now confirm Zabotel was found dead in a forested area not far from his home.

Cpl. Jeffrey Raffle thanks the public “for keeping an eye out for the missing man, and offers his condolences to the family whose love for their relative was apparent.”
