B.C. reports 814 new COVID-19 cases, Interior Health sees 272

KAMLOOPS — Interior Health accounted for more than a quarter of B.C.’s new COVID-19 cases.

On Wednesday (Sept. 8), the B.C. government reported 814 new cases of COVID-19, with 272 of them in Interior Health. Provincially, there are 5,550 (up by 85) active cases of COVID-19, with 1,793 (up by 79) within Interior Health.

Of the provincial active cases, 261 individuals are in hospital (up by six), with 129 in intensive care (up by three). The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

No new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, leaving the provincial total at 1,842.

Elsewhere, there were 241 new cases in Fraser Health (1,601 active), 135 in Vancouver Coastal Health (939), 90 in Island Health (485) and 72 in Northern Health (721). There were four new cases from people who reside out of Canada, leaving that active total at 11.

No new health-care facility outbreaks were reported, leaving the active total at 21, with 13 of them in Interior Health. That includes Kamloops Seniors Village, the Hamlets at Westsyde, Hillside Village in Salmon Arm and Nicola Meadows in Merritt.

As of Sept. 8, 85.2 per cent (3,949,169) of eligible British Columbians 12 and older have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 77.7 per cent (3,601,169) have received their second.

Cases by vaccine status

Between Aug. 31 and Sept. 6, there were 4,691 COVID-19 cases reported, with 69.2 per cent (3,247) of those from unvaccinated individuals, 8.6 per cent (403) from partially vaccinated and 22.2 per cent (1,041) fully vaccinated.

In that timeframe per 100,000 population, 244.4 were unvaccinated, 108.3 were partially vaccinated and 30.0 were fully vaccinated.

Over the past two weeks cases (Aug. 24 to Sept. 6), there were 233 hospitalizations, with 79.0 per cent (184) being unvaccinated, 6.9 per cent (16) being partially vaccinated and 14.2 per cent (33) being fully vaccinated.

The per 100,000 population rates during that timeframe is 13.7 unvaccinated, 4.1 partially vaccinated and 1.0 fully vaccinated.
