Wednesday COVID-19 case count at 266 in BC Interior; Kamloops Seniors Village still battling outbreak

VICTORIA — The B.C. government reported 785 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday (Sept. 1) — 266 of them are in Interior Health. Kamloops Seniors Village continues to battle its outbreak.

Provincially, there are 5,873 active cases of COVID-19 (down 172 from Aug. 31), with 2,299 of them in Interior Health (down 196). Of the provincial active cases, 199 individuals are in hospital (up by 12), with 112 of them in intensive care (up by nine). The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

There are 50 people hospitalized in Interior Health and 36 in intensive care.

Two new deaths related to COVID-19 were reported in the past 24 hours. The provincial total rose to 1,818. One took place in Vancouver Coastal and the other in Island Health.

Elsewhere, 246 new cases were reported in Fraser Health (1,504 active), 110 in Vancouver Coastal Health (1,042), 69 in Island Health (538), and 94 in Northern Health (483). There are no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada, but the total active cases sits at seven.

As of Sept. 1, 84.3 per cent (3,908,860) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 76.5 per cent (3,547,751) have received their second.
