SOUND OFF: Kids 12 and under can get on board with free transit
A NEW SCHOOL YEAR means many families will be spending money on new clothes, new shoes, backpacks and school supplies. But this year, back-to-school season will be more affordable for many B.C. families.
Starting today, September 1, kids 12 and under can ride public transit for free, anywhere in B.C.
Making public transit free for kids 12 and under was a commitment we made during the last provincial election, and I’m so excited that it’s being launched today.
This change will help kids get to and from school, sports and activities around their community more easily, not to mention making family trips and outings more affordable for parents. It also supports active transportation, since many kids will take the bus for part of their trip and walk or cycle the rest of the way. We estimate that around 370,000 children 12 and under will benefit from free transit across B.C.
