Three new deaths, 707 new COVID-19 cases in Interior Health over the weekend

VICTORIA — The B.C. government is reporting 1,853 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, including four epi-linked cases, with 707 of them in Interior Health.

Provincially, there are 5,918 active cases of COVID-19 (up by 261 since Friday), with 2,424 of them in Interior Health (up by 234). Of the provincial active cases, 176 individuals are in hospital (up by 17), with 91 of them in intensive care (up by seven). The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Seven new deaths – three in Interior Health, two in Island Health, and one each in Fraser Health and Northern Health – related to COVID-19 were reported in the past 72 hours. The provincial total sits at 1,814.

Elsewhere, 531 new cases were reported in Fraser Health (1,371 active), 295 in Vancouver Coastal Health (1,076), 178 in Island Health (587), and 142 in Northern Health (453). There were no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada, although that total active count sits at seven.

The daily breakdown over the three-day stretch is as follows:

  • Aug. 27 to 28: 769 new cases
  • Aug. 28 to 29: 581 new cases
  • Aug. 29 to 30: 503 new cases

There have been four new health-care facility outbreaks: Rose Woods Village in Trail (Interior Health), Chilliwack General Hospital (Fraser Health), Fort St. John Hospital (Northern Health), and Sunset Lodge in Victoria (Island Health).

There are 18 active outbreaks, with 12 of them in Interior Health, including Nicola Meadows in Merritt.

As of Aug. 30, 84.2 per cent (3,904,121) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 76.4 per cent (3,541,731) have received their second dose.

Cases by vaccine status

Between Aug. 20 and 26, there were 4,565 COVID-19 cases reported, with 71.3 per cent (3,255) of those from unvaccinated individuals, 10.4 per cent (477) from partially vaccinated, and 18.2 per cent from fully vaccinated (833).

In that timeframe per 100,000 population, 208.3 were unvaccinated, 111.1 were partially vaccinated, and 26.2 were fully vaccinated.

Over the past two weeks cases (Aug. 13 to 26), there were 217 hospitalizations. 79.3 per cent (172) were unvaccinated, 6.5 per cent (14) were partially vaccinated, and 14.3 per cent (31) were fully vaccinated.
